I'm a glass half-full guy myself. Sadly, the state of personal finances in the U.S. of A is not awesome. It actually looks pretty bleak. Here are some fun facts 👇🏻
of U.S. adults said money has a negative impact on their mental health, including causing stress.
in combined credit card, student loan, and auto loan debt as of 2024. That's "T" as in trillion.

Hiya, I'm Tommy! 👋 Let's face it, working hard as hell for money and not making the most of it is about as American as apple pie. Why? Money is neglected in our education system, roboadvisors and AI are largely unhelpful, and most advisors at the legacy (old, crusty dinosaur) financial firms are glorified salespeople and money babysitters. I founded Counterculture Wealth in 2022 to be part of the solution. I built a firm I would want to hire as a Millennial and would gladly refer my parents to. That's why we are a fiercely independent fiduciary firm (try saying that 5x fast), don't sell products or have investment minimums, and leverage badass fintech to deliver an unrivaled client experience.
Since launching, I have created over 50 financial plans for folks like you; from recent-grad travel nurses to Nigerian-born software engineers to married couples eyeing retirement. I, along with my trusty steed, Finn 🦮, would love to work our magic for you, too. Godspeed.
Personal finances are overwhelming enough as it is. The last thing you need is to pay big bucks to someone in a three-piece suit to confuse the hell out of you with a 50 page PDF of charts and jargon. I keep it simple and distill everything you need to know into a sleek, sexy, and value-packed 2-4 page financial plan. Every plan includes
We saved a few gems.
"I used to have my money with a nationwide financial advisory firm. My advisor rarely contacted me and when he did he would try to sell me something new or ask for referrals. As I got closer to retirement, I knew I needed more help and to work with someone who genuinely cared about my financial health. Tommy has been my financial advisor for the past 5 years. His advice has been excellent, invaluable and has kept me focused and on track for my retirement goals."
"Tommy is an absolute legend. I came to him with a ton of questions and he addressed all of them and more in my plan. He went above and beyond to explain everything in simple terms so that I could fully understand. I left with a clear path forward and a huge sense of relief. Couldn’t recommend him more. 10/10."
"I’ve done my own finances for years, but realized I needed help, especially if I wanted to reach my goals. Tommy patiently answered my numerous questions and gave me clarity on priorities and next steps. His genuine passion for helping others has helped foster trust and makes it difficult to imagine working with a larger firm. I look forward to continuing this partnership for years to come."
Some fine print: Counterculture Wealth did not pay for these testimonials. We get a lot of great feedback from clients and chose a few of our favorites to feature here. To my knowledge, no other conflicts of interest exist concerning these testimonials.
Figuring out your finances is complicated enough. The fees you pay your financial advisor shouldn't be.
Work one-on-one with a financial advisor (that's me) to fill gaps in your financial education, spot areas for optimization and automation, and build a plan to help you reach even your biggest money goals.
If your foreseeable future includes your partner, you should plan (financially) for that together. Whether you are planning for a wedding, how to send the kids to college someday, or just trying to have an open, non-judgmental place to talk about money together, this offering is perfect for couples!
Some more fine print: Most people can expect to pay the prices listed above. However, we charge a lil' extra for employees with stock compensation and business owners to account for greater complexity and TLC needed in planning. On the flip side, we also offer discounted pricing for folks who find themselves on hard times and could use some help. We assess both on a case-by-case basis.

In the context of financial advisors, a fiduciary is ethically and legally required to act and give advice in the best interests of their client. Practically speaking, this should mean greater transparency, avoiding conflicts of interest whenever possible, and financial advice solely focusing on you and your unique goals, not hitting the sales quota for an all-expenses-paid trip to Cancun. Sadly, this is far from the industry default. Most financial advisors follow the Suitability Standard, with far less strict requirements. As a registered investment adviser (RIA), Counterculture Wealth is subject to and abides by the Fiduciary Standard 100% of the time. You can read about the differences here.
TL;DR: Yes, I am a fiduciary.
Sadly, there is no such thing as a "free financial plan." 🦄 In reality, the majority of advisors pitching "free plans" almost certainly earn juicy commissions to sell financial products, like permanent life insurance and loaded mutual funds, from the companies they represent. As a result, these "free plans" tend to be product-heavy and light on quality advice (especially in your best interests) on reaching your goals. I know because I started my career doing the same thing.
No. We have everyone go through our multi-week process of creating a financial so that both sides can test-drive what working together would look and feel like. In most cases, receiving a financial plan is love at first sight, and we decide to keep things going. That said, this offering gives flexibility to delegate or take the DIY approach once a financial plan is in your hands (or email inbox).
This is a great question and one I get... a lot. In my opinion, and in my clients' experiences, the long-term peace of mind of knowing your finances are being taken care of by a professional can be worth the cost in itself. And then you factor in the hidden benefit of avoiding costly mistakes (i.e., saving you from yourself) which is something I unfortunately see all the time.
Not sold on the touchy-feely stuff? Okay, well there was also a study done by Vanguard that shows investors who work with a financial advisor can average as much as 3% more in net returns than investors who don't have one. If you'd like to get nerdy and/or fact-check me, you can read the full study here.
